Fabric stretch ceilings: do-it-yourself installation, advantages and disadvantages, types of fastening seamless fabrics, installation stages. Do-it-yourself fabric stretch ceilings How to properly install a fabric stretch ceiling

Over time, the same interior of a room becomes boring; there is a desire to change the design and make it not just beautiful and stylish, but also unusual, causing surprise and admiration. One of possible ways such an extraordinary change in the usual interior - ceiling decoration, the most expressive and interesting option which is decorating a fabric ceiling with your own hands.

Traditional types of ceiling finishing, starting with ancient whitewashing, painting it with enamels, wallpapering and ending with modern stretch and suspended ceilings, have already become familiar and do not arouse much interest. Currently, there are a lot of different design solutions for ceiling finishing. modern materials with a wide variety of colors, stylish patterns and interesting shapes. The latest fashion trend in ceiling decoration was multi-level ceiling with backlight. Stretch ceilings are also very popular.

Fabric stretch ceilings

Stretch ceiling has proven itself to be the most best option finishing of the ceiling, the result of which is the achievement of a stylish, cozy interior. The main advantage of this type of finishing is a fairly reasonable price for the entire scope of work, ease and speed of installation. The absence of the need to clean the surface and prepare for ceiling installation also plays an important role. Therefore, the room remains clean during the installation process, there is no dust and dirt, as when dismantling the ceiling and cleaning it from whitewash or wallpaper. In addition to all this, the building materials market offers a huge selection of textures and color solutions for suspended ceilings. If you want to change the design of the room, you can easily remove the existing tension fabric and replace it with another desired one. The advantages of this type of ceiling finishing include the following:

  1. easy to care for, it washes well and does not accumulate dust
  2. absence of cracks on it due to possible deformation or shrinkage of the house
  3. not afraid of moisture, flooding from upper floors by neighbors
  4. does not emit foreign odors, is absolutely environmentally friendly
  5. completely fireproof, since non-combustible materials are used in its production
  6. color retention when exposed to sunlight
  7. durability and practicality

One type of stretch ceiling is fabric ceiling, which today has become one of the new trends in fashionable design solutions for ceiling decoration. Finishing the ceiling with fabric can radically change the decor of a room.

The fabric ceiling is a porous base impregnated with a polystyrene composition. As a result, the material is very durable, and the ceiling itself looks beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. Such stretch ceilings do not have seams, since the canvas can reach 5 meters wide and there is no need to use welding. The complete absence of seams gives an aesthetic appearance to the upper surface of the room.

The material can be either natural fabric, fiberglass or artificial. When using fiberglass, ceilings become more durable as a result of increased operational properties, which are able to experience and withstand exposure to any temperature, both low and high.

In general, the installation of a fabric-based stretch ceiling is no different from the installation of its PVC counterpart, so let’s talk about the details of its installation.

Advantages of fabric ceilings

The fabric material is environmentally friendly and has different densities and weights, capable of resisting various types of bacteria, spoilage, and mold. These properties allow it to be used in many types of buildings, including street structures. High-quality fabrics allow designers to expand their possibilities; they look great in almost all places as:

  • suspended ceilings in sports facilities - swimming pools, health centers, recreation centers
  • suspended ceilings in commercial buildings - supermarkets, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, beauty salons
  • finishing of ceilings in industrial buildings; at airports, train stations
  • sun-protection ceilings in car showrooms, gaming complexes, entertainment centers

The use of fabric for ceiling decoration is due to the following properties:

  1. light weight and flexible material
  2. the possibility of applying images to it using photo printing
  3. possibility of necessary ventilation
  4. possibility of mounting lighting devices in the fabric itself, as well as installing them above it

Using various techniques of decorative art, you can achieve interesting and stunning effects - express the play of light and shade in the numerous folds of the drapery, and emphasize it advantageously. Using the difference in textures and different types of draperies, you can create an unusual and unique design for the ceiling, adding a special flavor to the decoration of the room. Also, a successful design would be the use of leather and beautiful materials for curtains.

DIY ceiling decoration with fabric

Unusual and new things are always interesting. Human imagination is truly limitless. Imagine a room with the most amazing red and burgundy roses on the white ceiling, you just can’t take your eyes off it! And it’s quite easy to build such beauty; to decorate the ceiling with fabric you will need 2-3 meters, depending on the size of the ceiling of the room, high-quality fabric, for example, German curtains.

Preparing the ceiling for finishing with fabric

To glue fabric and construct a fabric ceiling, you must follow the following steps:

  • Plaster and level the surface well to achieve a perfectly smooth surface.
  • Stretch it tightly, like canvas on a stretcher. As a result, existing irregularities can be hidden.

To complete these steps, you first need to clean the ceiling surface from any contaminants, remove all cracks and crevices, seal them with putty and dry them. After this, sand with sandpaper and remove roughness.
There should be no stains that can show through the fabric; they should be covered with a layer of nitro enamel or sealed with thin aluminum foil.
If present on the surface oil paint it should first be washed with water to which soda has been added, and then the surface should be thoroughly dried. Then clean with sandpaper.

Ceiling installation: method 1

To install the fabric sheet, you need to prepare a profile, one of the best types is aluminum, it is more durable and reliable. We fix the fabric in the middle in the profile, while leaving a margin - 5-6 centimeters of the fabric should protrude beyond the edges of the profile. We tighten the fabric in small increments, trying to align it as much as possible. The movement should start from the middle of the room to its corners, the direction of movement of the canvas should occur in both directions. As we move, we secure the canvas in the baguette, and at the end we secure it in the corners of the profile.

If there are folds on the fabric, you can easily remove them using a hair dryer. Use smooth circular movements to warm up these places, while holding the hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm from the canvas, setting the temperature to 180 degrees. After installation is complete, we remove the pieces protruding beyond the edges of the profile, after which all that remains is to install the decorative plugs.

Ceiling installation: method 2

Another interesting option for constructing a fabric stretch ceiling with your own hands is the following method. Prepare wooden beams with a cross-section of each corner of 2x3; any construction workshop can quickly produce them. Order the length of the timber 50 centimeters longer than needed according to the measurements, since their corners must subsequently be filed. Penatex should be used to process the beams and obtain the desired shade. In addition, you will need Velcro tape (can be purchased at sewing stores) and 8 metal corners.

We are constructing a frame that will be suspended from the ceiling. We attach the hard side of the tape with a special stapler to the part of the beam that protrudes, having previously glued it to liquid nails. The reverse part of the tape must be sewn around the perimeter to the front side of the curtain.

The finished frame will be located under the lamp; if it is not transparent, it is necessary to provide a high-power lamp, a flat 6-lamp will do. When choosing thin or transparent fabric, normal lighting is sufficient.

All that remains is to hang the resulting structure from the ceiling. It will look unusual if you use chains and hang the frame from the ceiling on them, and you can attach it to the ceiling using pipe holders. After screwing the hooks into the frame and installing it suspended ceiling ready and looks like a real treat! This design is very reliable and practical. If there are distortions along the walls, an important point in the process of installing the frame on chains is to adjust the suspension on the chain link to achieve parallelism in all corners.

A great convenience is the ability to easily remove the structure from the ceiling by removing one side of the chain from a pair of hooks. By lowering the frame from the ceiling, you can easily and quickly remove the fabric from the frame for washing when it becomes dirty or when replacing the fabric with another one. You just need to remove the fabric from the Velcro. Decorating the ceiling with fabric can be used both in small rooms, and in large areas.

When preparing several fabric options, the interior of the room can be changed very often. Draping the ceiling with fabric looks very attractive and impressive, and most importantly – unique!

Stretch ceilings first appeared in Europe in the second half of the twentieth century.

Since the late 90s, this technology has been used in countries former USSR. Since then, every year they have been gaining consumer preference and are a worthy alternative for decorating the ceiling space.

Why choose these ceilings?

Such consumer trust in stretch ceilings is fully justified - after all, the latter have numerous advantages.

A man fixes the ceiling in the hall

Among them it is worth noting:

  • speed of installation and cleanliness of work - minimum dust and dirt during installation, plus there is no need to move furniture to install the structure;
  • reliability of the structure - the ceiling does not crack or deform over time;
  • suspended ceilings “eat up” the small height of the room - about 5 cm versus 10-15 cm of suspended ceilings, which is especially important in premises dating back to Soviet times;
  • moisture resistance - the materials from which such ceilings are made are not afraid of moisture. This is the only type of ceiling for which flooding from neighbors above or a leaky roof is not a problem at all. Water can be drained or pumped out of the ceiling space without any problems, and your repair is saved;
  • durability - the material does not fade in the sun, and the ceiling will retain its original appearance for a long time. The guaranteed service life of suspended ceilings starts at 10 years;
  • fire safety - the material from which suspended ceilings are made is not flammable;
  • versatility - this ceiling looks wonderful in rooms of various types with various types lamps. You can always choose the appropriate option for a glamorous living room and for a strict executive office, for a high-tech house and for an apartment in a classic style. It will perform well both in ordinary residential and office premises, and in rooms with high humidity(bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, etc.);
  • aesthetic appeal;
  • variety of textures and colors;
  • these ceilings do not absorb odors and do not smell themselves;
  • these ceilings are environmentally friendly, even if they are made from artificial materials— they do not emit harmful substances during operation;
  • ease of care - because the ceiling does not accumulate static electricity, it does not attract dust and is very easy to clean.

Of course, when weighing the pros and cons of installing suspended ceilings, you should also remember that They also have disadvantages. This:

  • quite high price compared to other types of ceilings;
  • these ceilings are resistant to damage from sharp objects and abrasive cleaning agents;
  • installation of some types of suspended ceilings is quite complicated and requires special skills and special expensive equipment;
  • Some types of suspended ceilings are not suitable for unheated rooms.

Meticulous note. Disadvantages regarding installation and fear of frost apply only to PVC (polyvinyl chloride) ceilings. Also quite often you can come across “authoritative” arguments that suspended ceilings begin to sag some time after installation ( read more details here— ). If the material for such ceilings is chosen correctly and the installation technology is strictly followed, then the risk of such a problem is reduced to almost zero.

The main advantages of this type of ceilings

There are two types of suspended ceilings - PVC ceilings and. And if the installation PVC ceilings for non-professionals is extremely difficult, then do-it-yourself fabric stretch ceilings are a reality. Fabric ceilings occupy approximately a third of the suspended ceiling market, compared to PVC analogues. have the following advantages:

  1. fabric stretch ceiling can be installed in almost any room without connecting strips - the width of the material reaches 5 m;
  2. frost resistance - you can install a fabric ceiling in an unheated room;
  3. ease of installation - this type of ceiling can be installed independently; installation requires a standard set of tools, which every craftsman has.

Among the disadvantages of fabric ceilings, it should be noted:

  1. higher price compared to PVC ceilings;
  2. a small variety of textures and colors - fabric ceilings have only a matte rough surface and a limited range of colors. You can put an image on them, but this will raise their price even more.

Selecting material for work

Fabric installation. It's better to do it together

For the manufacture of fabric stretch ceilings, it is recommended to use two types of materials. The first is special knitted fabrics made from synthetic materials; as a rule, these materials are offered by companies that sell and install suspended ceilings. The second type is coarse, undyed calico, which can be bought at a fabric store, market, etc.

Special fabrics will cost you much more, but installing the ceiling will give you a minimum of hassle. In almost all installation options, you will get a seamless ceiling, onto which, if you wish, the manufacturer will pre-apply a pattern of any complexity. Calico fabric will cost you much less, but you will have to tinker a lot with its preparation - first sew strips to fit the size of the room, process the connecting seams. After installing the ceiling, the calico will need to be primed and painted with special interior paints that are suitable for application to fabrics. In addition, rooms with high humidity are not suitable for such ceilings, because... their wet processing will not only be difficult, but can also damage appearance ceilings.

Before we look at what tools are needed for the job and how to install such a ceiling, we would like to recommend that you read these materials:

  1. About the comparison of this ceiling with PVC stretch ceilings (the advantages and disadvantages of both types are considered);

What materials and tools are needed for installation?

So, to make a fabric ceiling, you need the following tools:

  • construction stapler;
  • drill or hammer drill - depending on the material from which the walls are made;
  • set of drills;
  • special wallpaper spatula (flipper);
  • construction knife;
  • scissors;
  • laser or water level.

Materials you will need:

  1. calico - in an amount equal to the size of the room for making fabric plus 20 cm on each side;
  2. wooden blocks (glazing beads) measuring 40x50 or 50x50 mm - in an amount equal to the perimeter of the room;
  3. anchors - according to the number of wooden blocks. The size of the anchors and their type depend on the thickness and strength of the material from which the walls are made;
  4. assembly adhesive (shoe adhesive is best);
  5. tracing paper;
  6. glue for tracing paper;
  7. PVA glue;
  8. primer for calico;
  9. paint for coloring calico - most often they use acrylic or water-based paints;
  10. - in an amount equal to the perimeter of the room to cover the place where the ceiling is attached.

Meticulous note. We deliberately do not mention in the article a sewing machine and a set of tools necessary for making the ceiling fabric. In the end, you don’t necessarily have to master the associated professions of cutter, seamstress, motor operator, and ironer—specialized workshops can do such work for you quickly, efficiently, and at an affordable price.

Stage 1. Marking the ceilings

This stage is the most important of the entire scale of work, because the quality and correct installation of the ceiling structure ultimately depends on the correct markings. To do this, make the first mark at a height of 4-5 cm from the ceiling (depending on what size bars you use) and project it onto all the walls of the room. As a result of the marking, a horizontal line should be drawn on all walls of the room.

Advice. To ensure that the ceiling does not repeat the unevenness and slopes of the ceiling and walls in the room, you should project the first mark of the ceiling height onto all walls of the room using a level.

Stage 2. Install glazing beads around the perimeter of the room

To install glazing beads, you need to drill holes in the wall for anchors. To do this, number all the pieces in the order of installation (apply the numbers with a marker). Then drill a hole in each bead for attaching an anchor, attach all the bars in order to the line marked on the wall and transfer the marks to the wall through the drilled holes. Drill holes in the walls for anchors. When using this technique, all the holes on the bars and walls will coincide. Install the selected type of anchors and secure the bars to them.

Helpful information. In some sources you can find the option of attaching glazing beads to a special wall profile for suspended ceilings. In this case, the glazing beads are not attached end-to-end, but every 7-10 cm. The method described in this article significantly reduces the cost of fastening technology and is widely used in the post-Soviet countries.

Stage 3. Fasten the panel

At this stage, you will definitely need an assistant to secure the panel without distortions, and simply supporting it won’t hurt either. For installation, use a construction stapler and assembly adhesive. Coat the glazing bead with glue, attach a panel to it and press it with a fin at the corner where the bar meets the wall. Pull the panel by the free part while holding the fin - the panel will stretch, then shoot it with a stapler. First, attach the canvas to the longest wall of the room - starting from the middle, move to the edges. After this, move to the opposite wall, making sure that no folds form on the fabric. Then attach the canvas to the narrow part of the room using the same principle - from the middle to the edges. Trim off the excess edges of the attached panel.

Stage 4. Tracing paper queue

Tracing paper is needed to hide the connecting seams of the calico fabric. If they are not treated, when painting, the paint in these places is not applied evenly, but hangs out in small bubbles, which, naturally, deprives the room of its aesthetic appeal. Therefore, this stage of work is very important and requires special care.

First we prepare special glue. The recipe is simple - cook a paste (preferably from flour) and add PVA glue to it in an amount of 30% of the mass of the paste. Then dilute the mixture with water until it becomes thick like kefir and strain. We apply glue to both the canvas and the tracing paper, gluing it with an overlap of 3-5 cm. To prevent the edges of the tracing paper and the overlaps from being visible, bend them so that they do not stick to each other and to the fabric. When the glue has dried, carefully tear off the folded edges of the tracing paper so that the tracing paper becomes thinner at the tearing point, and subsequently the seams will become invisible. If necessary, the seams can be carefully sanded with very fine sandpaper and PVA.

Stage 5. Bringing beauty and shine

After the PVA has dried, prime the entire surface of the ceiling. After about 2 hours you can already glue the baguette. Then we paint the ceiling with paint in 2-3 layers.

For those who better perceive information in video format, we have prepared a video that shows in detail the installation of a Descor fabric stretch ceiling. We are sure that this will be useful to you.

We wish you a pleasant renovation!

Europe became acquainted with stretch ceilings in the second half of the twentieth century.

In the late 90s, similar technology came to the taste of the countries of the former USSR. Since then, suspended ceilings have confirmed their status every year better design ceiling space.

Selection of suspended ceilings

The popularity of suspended ceilings among consumers is due to the numerous advantages of the product, including:

However, when talking about stretch ceilings, you should not rely only on positive characteristics.

Of course, there are also disadvantages, which we will talk about:

  • high cost compared to other types of ceilings;
  • the construction of suspended ceilings is not strong - they are afraid of damage from sharp objects and chemicals;
  • installation of certain types of suspended ceilings is complex and requires special skills. It is also worth mentioning here about bulky or scarce equipment;
  • not all types of suspended ceilings are suitable for unheated rooms.

Attention: Installation difficulties and fear of temperature changes apply only to PVC (polyvinyl chloride) ceilings. Quite often you can come across judgments that they begin to sag some time after installation. With the right choice of material for ceilings, as well as following installation technologies, such problems are unlikely to bother the home owner.

DIY fabric ceiling and its advantages

There are two types of suspended ceilings - PVC ceilings and fabric (seamless) ceilings. Comparing the installation of similar structures, it should be noted that PVC installation ceilings are distinguished by their complexity. Do-it-yourself fabric ceilings are a relatively easy task. Such structures occupy about a third construction market stretch ceilings. Of course, this is not accidental.

Let's talk about the advantages of fabric ceilings:

Ceiling installation: materials and tools

  • construction stapler;
  • drill or hammer drill - based on the wall material;
  • drills (full set);
  • spatula for fabric ceilings (fins);
  • construction knife;
  • scissors;
  • levels – laser or water.

Materials required for installation:

  1. calico – quantity, not less than the size of the room + 20 cm (additionally) on each side;
  2. wooden blocks or glazing beads - their dimensions are 40x50 or 50x50 mm. The amount of material must match the perimeter of the room;
  3. anchors - the same number as wooden blocks. The size and type of anchors are related to the thickness and strength of the material from which the walls are made;
  4. assembly adhesive (the best option is to purchase shoe adhesive);
  5. tracing paper;
  6. glue for tracing paper;
  7. PVA glue);
  8. primer for calico;
  9. dyeing agent for coloring calico - recommended to use acrylic paint or water emulsion;
  10. plinth for the ceiling (baguette) – the quantity must match the perimeter of the room to hide the ceiling attachment points.

Attention: The article does not talk about the availability of a sewing machine and a set of tools necessary for making fabric. This is the task of the cutter, seamstress-motor operator and ironer. All you have to do is contact specialized workshops that will as soon as possible and for a reasonable price they will do all the work for you.

Stage 1. Marking the ceiling

A very responsible and important stage of the entire scale of work. The correct marking will completely affect the quality and correct installation of the ceiling structure. The first mark is fixed at a height of 5 cm from the ceiling, and then it is projected onto all the walls of the room. Based on the marking results, all walls of the room should have parts of a horizontal line.

Tip: The first mark will help eliminate unevenness and slopes of the ceiling and walls in the room. A special level must be used to designate it.

Stage 2. Install bars around the perimeter of the room

Installing glazing beads: drill a hole in the wall for the anchors. First of all, the glazing beads are numbered and given their serial number for installation. Next, a hole must be drilled in all the bars for attaching the anchor. Attach all the bars in order to the line marked on the wall. Then, based on drilled holes, project the marks onto the wall. This technique will help match the holes on the bars and walls. Install the selected type of anchors, and then fix the glazing beads on them.

Useful information: You may be faced with the option of attaching glazing beads to a special profile for suspended ceilings. It should be remembered that in this case the glazing beads are fastened not end-to-end, but every 10 cm.

Stage 3. The process of securing the canvas

The stage requires at least two people. The need is due to securing the canvas without distortions. Installation work will not do without the use of a construction stapler and assembly adhesive. The glazing bead is covered with a layer of glue, after which a canvas is applied to it and pressed with a flipper at the corner where the bar meets the wall. Next, pull the blade by the free part, while holding the fin. As a result, the panel will stretch and it will be possible to fix it with a stapler. First of all, the canvas is fixed on the longest wall of the room (from the middle to the edges). Next, you can move to the opposite wall. Make sure that dropped ceilings the fabric ones had no folds. Finally, the canvas is fixed on a narrow part of the room according to a similar principle: from the middle to the edges. If there are any excess edges of the attached fabric, just cut them off.

Stage 4. Tracing paper

Tracing paper hides the connecting seams of the calico fabric. In the absence of such measures, the paint will not be applied evenly, but will hang out in bubbles. Ultimately, all the work will go down the drain, because the room will lose its aesthetic appeal. This stage of work is responsible and requires careful and thoughtful actions.

First of all, prepare special glue. Recipe: cook a paste (based on flour) and add PVA glue to it (30% of the mass of the paste). Next, the mass is diluted with water until thick and filtered. Applying glue - simultaneously on the canvas and on the tracing paper. It is best to bend the edges of the tracing paper and the overlaps - this will prevent them from sticking to each other. After the glue has dried, tear off the folded edges of the tracing paper. Moreover, in places where it is torn off, the tracing paper should become as thin as possible - as a result of which the seams will become invisible. Some experts advise treating the seams with sandpaper and PVA glue.

Stage 5. DIY fabric ceilings: chic and beauty

After waiting for the PVA glue to dry, we begin to prime the entire surface. After two hours, you can fix the baguette. After this, the ceiling is painted with 3 layers of paint.

“It’s mind-boggling! Just finished the renovation! And she - “I want a new ceiling, something fabulous!” – Alexey was indignant. “There are a lot of ways to decorate the ceiling on the Internet. Even draping the ceiling with fabric will add zest,” I reassured my friend. “It takes a lot of money!” He did not let up. "Don't worry, we'll do it fairy ceiling made from fabric with your own hands!” He said he would have to help. Well, let's get started!

Fabric ceiling

Choice of color and material

Both silk and synthetics, veil, and even velvet or satin are great for decorating the ceiling. The choice of material dictates the result. Organza will make the room airy, and luxurious velvet will help create a cozy atmosphere.
Which color should you choose? Pink will slightly reduce the height and add youthful style. Orange will fill you with a cheerful summer mood. Lilac relaxes and helps relieve tension and stress after a hard day. Delicate beige adds airiness.
It's time to go to the fabric store. To make a fabric ceiling, we decided to use organza in several colors of calm lilac and soft beige. That's what the nice girl-consultant called these colors. We men don’t really understand where it’s soft lilac and where it’s calm beige. They understood one thing for sure: they will add comfort and fabulousness to the interior of the bedroom.

Fabric ceiling in the bedroom

Preparation

How to calculate the quantity? With a suspended ceiling, everything is simple - you can measure the floor of the room, because the area of the ceiling and floor are the same. In our case, 12 m2. But what about drapery? We decided that the fold step would be equal to half the step between the folds. So in theory we need twice as much fabric as the ceiling area. And so they did. According to the drawing, we will alternate lilac and beige in different ways. Therefore, we bought 14 meters of lilac and 10 meters of beige fabric.

Fabric stretch ceiling

Note. You need to calculate the strips with a slight overlap. The width of our strip is 1.2 m. those. overlap approximately 20 cm.

Now it's worth visiting a hardware store. What do we need. For the frame of our structure, along the perimeter of the walls, a 4x5 cm block with a total length of 50 meters (perimeter 48 meters) and a piece of plywood 35x35 cm, 1.5 cm thick. For fastening the bars, there are 160 dowels, for the staple fabric there are several packs. Plywood is needed for the center. In the nearest carpentry workshop we will cut a circle with a diameter of 35 cm.

Let's make a circle at the nearest carpentry workshop

Tools:

  1. Construction stapler;
  2. Perforator for walls and ceilings. We rented it. Since I have a small household drill, but such a floor slab cannot be overcome;
  3. Last (wallpaper spatula) doubles as a template;
  4. Construction knife and scissors;
  5. Level. Laser is best.

It is worth noting that it is better to make a fabric ceiling with an assistant.

Execution of work

Let's transgress. First, we attach the bars to the walls around the perimeter of the room. If the ceiling height allows, you can experiment with the height. You can add additional airiness to the room. But, when the ceiling height of a standard panel is 2.6 m, there is no other option but to mount the frame at the very top. The first circle of plywood was secured in the center. As expected, brick walls The partitions gave up without a fight, but the slab took a lot of strength and sweat.

First, we attach the bars to the walls around the perimeter of the room.

The next step is to start marking and cutting the strips into pieces of 3 and 4 meters. It's simple. You need to draw a circle into 14 parts. There were 4 lilac three meter stripes, 2 beige stripes. And four meter stripes, four of each color.
Finally, we move on to attaching our strips. We stretch it along the perimeter of the walls without folds, and wrap the ends of the strip inward. It is imperative to overlap about 10 centimeters, otherwise lumbago will be visible. Then we place the fabric on our section of the circle and assemble it. We carefully secure the whole thing with staples. The pattern is as follows: there are lilac stripes at the corners. Inside - beige. There is one beige stripe on the three-meter wall, and two on the four-meter wall.

how suspended ceilings are installed

We managed to secure several strips. And then it dawned on me. If you attach an LED strip around the perimeter of the frame, you can get original lighting. And now, we are already going to the construction hypermarket. The LED strip was connected to distribution box to one of the switch keys. We had to give up adjusting the light in the main lamp.
To be honest, it is not difficult to fasten the fabric to the block - one pulls it, the other fastens it. But I had to “sweat” with the circle. We drew marks on the template with a marker so that the waves of the drapery were the same. Less than two hours had passed before all the elements were secured. Draping the ceiling with fabric was a success!

If you attach an LED strip around the perimeter of the frame, you can get original lighting

We attach the lamp to a plywood circle. That's it, it seems. But, something is missing. Exactly! The fastening brackets around the perimeter are not hidden in any way. Another trip to the supermarket for a polypropylene curtain rod. We bought the baseboard coated so as not to waste time on pre-painting.

Advice. Prepare material in advance for decorating the junction of the ceiling and wall. And you also need to paint in advance. Otherwise, there is a high risk of staining the fabric.

The fillets were glued only to the wall. That's all, actually. The fabric on the ceiling looks beautiful and truly fabulous, especially with lighting.

  • minimal tool;
  • a little fantasy.

Try it and you will understand that sometimes original ideas do not require much time and effort!

We solve a controversial issue: first, suspended ceiling or wallpaper Do-it-yourself high-quality ceiling repair in an apartment

Textile stretch ceiling or seamless, is a fabric made of polyester knitted thread, evenly impregnated with a polyurethane-based mixture, then dried and calendered. The ceiling canvas is produced in rolls 5 meters wide and is convenient because this size of the canvas allows installation without seams or joints, which is why stretch fabric ceilings have become popular. Do-it-yourself installation of suspended fabric ceilings does not require individual adjustment to the configuration of the room; you just need to purchase the required footage and, without additional processing of the fabric, fix it in the mounting profile.

Installation of seamless stretch ceilings

Advantages and disadvantages

The installation of fabric stretch ceilings is distinguished by its convenience, since seamless ceilings are not afraid of low temperatures and, in terms of their strength characteristics, are close to traditional finishes.

Textured fabric, no pre-priming required.

Textile stretch ceilings have a number of advantages:

  • Smooth surface;
  • resistance to temperature changes (-40 0 C +80 0 C);
  • fast and easy installation process;
  • long service life;
  • high functionality;
  • high fire safety;
  • moisture resistance.

A well-made one in its appearance resembles a high-quality plastered one, which is its main advantage.

Attention! It is necessary to use lamps with a power of no more than 50 W to avoid heating and deformation of the ceiling. Towards energy saving and LED lamps this does not apply.

The disadvantage of fabric ceilings is that they are easily damaged by a sharp object, but if we consider the fact that everything must be treated with care, then the disadvantage exhausts its significance.

Types of fastening seamless ceilings

Installation of suspended ceilings takes place without additional heating of the room, since the ceiling material does not expand when heated - they are installed quite simply and quickly.

To do this, you need to mount a baguette, which comes in two types:

  • U-shaped profile;
  • clip-on

U-shaped - wedge, used with a bead or wedge and a decorative insert. Such a system does not require precise measurements, is quick to implement and relatively cheap, but when using it, it is possible to displace the lighting fixtures, since the canvas does not have clearly defined boundaries, and deform the canvas, which will not be subject to reinstallation.

Also, the wedge method provides a short warranty period, as a result of which it has become unpopular.

The clip method is most widely used in fastening textile ceilings. Using clip fasteners, with the help of a friend, of course, you can do it yourself, without a specialist, since this method is quite simple and will not take much time, and will also significantly reduce costs.

The clip mount is made of durable plastic and is designed in such a way that it does not require additional decorations. This method is the main and most common in fastening fabric ceilings, it is also easy and fast.

Using the clip method, the results will be much higher than with the wedge (bead) method, and your ceiling will last much longer.

In the pictures below you can see the differences between these two types of fastening.

Installation stages

To ensure that the installation of a textile stretch ceiling goes without surprises, you must follow the following sequence:

  • determine the horizontal level of the future ceiling (using a laser or water level);
  • measure the corners of the room for smooth joining of the profile;
  • install a baguette;
  • start fastening;
  • decor;
  • installation of lighting devices.

Profile installation is one of the most important stages of installing a stretch ceiling, which is responsible for the durability of the structure.

After securing the baguette, we stretch the fabric, also sequentially, to get a good result, as can be seen in the diagram:

When securing textiles, the following sequence is also necessary:

  • sequential fixation of ceiling corners;
  • fixing the ceiling in the center of the wall;
  • fastening in the center of each intermediate section;
  • decoration using a decorative overlay.

The result of consistent actions will be a smooth ceiling, correctly fixed into a mounting molding.

To help those who decided to carry out repairs on their own for the first time, there is a video on the page. The DIY installation process is simple, but requires care and careful preparation.

Before starting the installation of a fabric ceiling, it is necessary to complete all dusty work, prepare the base well, because the service life of the coating and its appearance will depend on this, as well as determine the level of lighting fixtures and purchase them in advance.

After completing the installation, all that remains is to hide the ceiling mount with decor and install the lighting fixture. Installation of chandeliers and other lighting fixtures is carried out by fastening a plastic ring in the center of the ceiling so that its center coincides with the mounting point of the lighting fixture, and the size of the ring is such that the decor of the chandelier overlaps it.

After gluing the ring, you need to make a hole in the center and attach the chandelier. Your ceiling is ready! Our congratulations!
