White fireplace craft. How to make a decorative fireplace from boxes. Preparing a fireplace from boxes with your own hands for the New Year

What kind of New Year is it without a light? Candles on the table, garlands on the Christmas tree are good, but a festive atmosphere will fill the house if there is a fireplace in the banquet hall. A real fireplace is a complicated thing, and there is simply no technical ability to build one in an ordinary apartment building. However, in order to install a fireplace for the New Year, there is no need to start construction work in a private household.

Old packaging boxes or sheet packaging cardboard will help out. In general, you can build a fireplace out of boxes with your own hands, following two methods: one-time hastily, nervously looking at the hands of the clock and sniffing to see if anything is burning in the kitchen, or slowly a day or two in advance. In the latter case, it is quite possible to obtain a false fireplace (see figure on the right), which is in no way inferior to a plasterboard one and is just as durable, but many times simpler and cheaper. How? Now we'll see.

To the chimes

The simplest New Year's fireplace made from boxes can also be festively decorated. And no less durable. The difference between it and a more complex one, which will take a couple of evenings, is essentially aesthetic. The simplest fireplace will look in an atmosphere of fun, when everyone is “on edge” in the morning, and then warms up even more. A fireplace that is made in detail will retain its appearance in everyday situations. Although both are relative, because The durability of both fireplaces is the same. Here the author’s imagination and finishing methods are more important, see for example. video:

Video: example of making a New Year's fireplace from boxes

A master class on making a festive fireplace; their boxes fit into 4 pictures, see fig. below. The stage of covering with paper is eliminated if the components of the base of the box are glued together, as described below, and the fireplace is covered with self-adhesive (see below), or painted to resemble old brick or wild stone with imitation of masonry joints (also see below).

How to glue boxes

To fig. There seems to be nothing to add above - it’s so simple to make a fireplace out of boxes for the New Year. And after a glass or two, guests will be delighted with it. But so that the next morning you don’t want to remove the creation of your own hands faster than the Christmas tree, and, perhaps, want to leave it as a permanent decoration of the room, you need to know some little tricks. They will not complicate the work or delay it.

The first of them is to quickly glue the boxes not with household tape, but with masking tape (on the left in the figure), it is sold in construction stores. The adhesive layer of masking tape is approximately the same, but the base is paper. Any paint or self-adhesive coating fits perfectly on masking tape. Also, the masking tape is very thin: it will not show through under a layer of paint (unless the fireplace is made under a real fire, see below), the painted surface will be smooth. In addition, masking tape is cheaper than household tape and, even more so, technical tape.

However, until next New Year decorative fireplace, glued with masking tape, is unlikely to be worthy - the paper base will become limp from atmospheric moisture. A fireplace made from boxes glued together with a clerical adhesive pencil will also be disposable - the seams will dry out. If there are three large boxes that allow you to assemble the base of the fireplace according to the power diagram in the center in Fig. (the transverse volumetric beam rests on the columns), then it is better to glue them together with household PVA; This glue, unlike technical and construction PVA, dries in 5-10 minutes. Hot glue from a glue gun dries instantly, but it is much more expensive. A fireplace glued together with PVA or fusible glue according to the diagram in the center in Fig. It will withstand it if an average-sized guest who has been playing around sits on it instead of a bowl of dumplings. And the base of a decorative fireplace made of many small boxes (on the right in the figure), glued together with the same adhesives, will simply last for many years and will accept a finish that allows you to leave the fireplace as a permanent element of the interior.

Self-adhesive for fireplace

One of the best ways to decorate a New Year's fireplace from boxes is to stick with self-adhesive finishing materials; simply self-adhesive. But, let the reader know, suitable for this purpose, 3 types go on sale:

  • Self-adhesive wallpaper is thick, expensive, and sticks tightly to any surface. They are produced with a glossy, matte and sculptured surface, textured like wood, stone, etc. The elasticity of self-adhesive wallpaper allows it to be used to outline corners and curved surfaces with a fairly large radius of curvature (from approximately 300 mm), but they will not cover small bends and folds.
  • Furniture self-adhesive film on a plastic base - sticks well to wood and wood materials, incl. to the cardboard. Cheaper than self-adhesive wallpaper, thin, and ironed with a dry rag swab, it fits low, small folds. Under stone, wood, etc. textured, but not sculptured. Matte still does not reflect very much like polished imitated materials.
  • The same, on a paper basis - the cheapest. It does not stretch at all, therefore it is only suitable for covering objects of simple shape, the surfaces of which consist of planes. Plus – matte resp. the texture is very similar to sanded wood or polished stone. Accepts varnishing with nitro or acrylic varnish.

They cover a fireplace from boxes with self-adhesive tape in the same way as furniture, but with some features arising from the shape of the product and its material - cardboard. Step-by-step instructions for decorating a New Year's fireplace made of cardboard with self-adhesive films are as follows (see figure):

Step 1

We place the workpiece flat with the front (face) up; in Fig. for clarity, the process is shown as if you look at a lying fireplace from its underside. We lay the pieces of self-adhesive “dry” without removing the protective film. We adjust the patterns/textures of the pieces and cut them to size with scissors with an allowance of 30-40 mm for the folds at adjacent corners. For wall wings (see below) we give at least 15 cm.

Step 2

We remove the piece from the top lintel of the portal. We press down the pieces on the sidewalls (columns) no closer than 12-20 cm to the inner edges with weights. The best option- put a long ruler and put on it the same iron that Toropyzhka swallowed from “Dunno and His Friends.” Well, who doesn’t remember: “Toropyzhka was hungry, he swallowed a cold iron.” Now we lift the inner edge of the piece onto any of the sidewalls and peel off a protective film along it 10-12 cm deep.

Step 3

Holding the peeled edge of the protective film by both corners at once, we turn it in and back and pull it quietly. The self-adhesive will lie on its own on the surface being pasted. If you have never done this kind of work before, it is better to practice on a couple of small scraps, because... Do not touch the adhesive layer of the self-adhesive with your fingers.

Note: if the starting edge of self-adhesive wallpaper or plastic furniture self-adhesive does not immediately lie entirely on the base, it can be smoothed from the middle to the corners without strong pressure with a rag swab. The self-adhesive paper must be glued so that the starting edge immediately fits as desired.

Step 4

When at least 10 cm of self-adhesive lies on the surface to be pasted, remove the weight; It remains on the other side for now! Carefully pull out the protective film from under the self-adhesive, folding it up until the coating lies on the front (top in the figure, since the workpiece lies flat) and side of the column. We do not remove the protective film from the wall wing! Just cut off the excess!

Step 5

We glue the other sidewall in a similar way; then - the façade lintel and shelf. Before pasting the shelf, we cut the corners of the sidewall covering allowances at 45 degrees and press them (without touching the adhesive layer!) to the base of the shelf.

Note: All work according to steps 1-5 must be done in less than 20 minutes, because... This is exactly how long the adhesive layer of self-adhesive retains its properties in contact with air.

Step 6

What about the wings? It all depends on whether the fireplace will be a permanent piece of furniture or not. If yes, then you need to cover it with self-adhesive wallpaper. Then, having installed the fireplace in place (perhaps after finishing the shelf, hearth and firebox, see below), the protective film is pulled out from under the wings, which will stick to the wall. This will greatly enhance the visual “realness” of the fireplace, see the inset on the right in Fig.

If the fireplace is temporary, then the protective film is not pulled out from under the wings, only its tails are cut off exactly to size: having been on a wall or, say, a door quarter, the adhesive layer of self-adhesive will leave indelible marks on them. For the same reason, there is no need to secure the fireplace trim wings with double-sided tape. We need to use the method that, in the old days of general shortages, craftsmen attached to concrete walls wooden baseboards, baguette and telephone wiring - “noodles”:

  1. We buy 3-4 dozen steel straight (not safety!) pins with a bent eye (not with a bead!) thinner. Old-time shabashki especially valued “hair” pins with a thickness of 0.2-0.3 mm;
  2. We begin attaching the wing from the far upper corner, holding it so that the wing does not slip. If you work alone, the self-adhesive can be pressed against the wall with the butt of your fist (where your little finger is);
  3. The pin is taken with tweezers and placed with the tip on the film. At the same time, if you are working alone, use the butt of your fist to pull the corner of the wing up - to the side so that the wing lies flat on the wall;
  4. With small frequent and very weak blows of a hammer no heavier than 50 g, the pin is driven through the film into the wall, as far as it will fit;
  5. Remove the tweezers;
  6. Holding the film close to the pin with your fingers on both sides, take it by the eye with pliers and break it with a sharp tilt. The pin will bend a little before it breaks. The bend will hold the film;
  7. Fasten the wing in the same way from the corner down in increments of 5-10 cm, and then from the corner to the side of the fireplace;
  8. The other wing is attached in the same way;
  9. When the time comes to remove the fireplace, the wings of its casing are simply torn off from the fragments of pins. You need to pull smoothly, then all the debris will remain in the wall. They are carefully pulled out with pliers. If there is wallpaper on the wall, then that’s it – no traces will be visible. If the wall is plastered, small holes from pins are rubbed with a piece of leather or foam rubber.

What to do with bubbles?

It is difficult for a novice master to lay self-adhesive without bubbles. How can we be here? On a cardboard fireplace, the first 5-10 minutes are no good. The shrinking self-adhesive will squeeze the air out of the bubbles through the cardboard and they will collapse. And those that remain after 10 minutes of exposure are pierced with a sewing needle. After 10-20 minutes they will subside too. In case some remains (which is very unlikely), after piercing it is ironed with a credit card or something similar.

Fireplace from one box

If you have only one box, but large enough in plan and not very thick, for example, from under a TV, then you can already use it to make a fireplace for the New Year. Its diagram and approximate dimensions are given in Fig. below. To form the internal space of the firebox, the cardboard wings cut on the face are folded inward. To imitate an arched vault, several cuts are made and the resulting petals are folded inward. Then the inside of the firebox is covered with self-adhesive brick-like wallpaper or thick paper and painted. You can also make a corner cardboard fireplace from just one TV box (on the right in the figure).

Stone finish

There is plenty of self-adhesive material to look like stone on sale, but you can decorate a cardboard fireplace to look like it cheaper. And if the New Year's fireplace made from boxes has a real light (see below), then the method described below is the only possible one.

First of all, the seams between the boxes are rubbed with toothpaste. Then the fireplace is painted to match the selected stone using watercolors or gouache. A very good result is obtained by painting with red paint on boxes that are not covered with paper and not otherwise bleached - it turns out very similar to an old brick, because The colorful surface of watercolor and gouache is matte.

For “complete naturalness,” all that remains is to imitate masonry joints. To do this, they are first cut on the cardboard (on the left in the figure), cutting through only its top layer. The cuts can be broken or curved if the masonry is imitated with wild stone. It doesn’t matter whether they go along or across the inner corrugation of the cardboard.

Then the incisions are evenly pressed through with some hard round stick - from lollipops, the end of a knitting needle, etc. After this, any black pigment (ground black watercolor, soot, crushed pencil lead, etc.) is added to ordinary PVA while stirring until the tone of hardened cement is obtained. The mixture is drawn into a medical syringe without a needle, and guiding it with a cannula (nose) at an angle along the pressed grooves, smoothly pressing on the piston. Even if your hand trembles, the sausage of the mixture will still fall exactly into the cut. The simulated seams will dry within a day.

Light bulbs and firewood

A fireplace with a dark, cold firebox only wastes space. On New Year's Eve - even more so. You can make it look natural, without the risk of starting a real fire (see below), by painting the inside of the firebox with pink-crimson or light-crimson watercolor or gouache - they will give a soft play of light without unnatural highlights.

The next step is to lay a non-reflective red (mostly) and yellow fabric instead of the hearth. Then a flashing garland of red and yellow lights is placed in the firebox. It is best if the garland regulator provides a slow blinking of the bulbs with a smooth change in their brightness. Then the imitation of the reflections of the fire in the firebox will turn out to be very natural, on the left in Fig.

Now let's try to imitate smoldering firewood to cover the light bulbs. There is no particular point in putting real branches or their imitation (in the center) into the firebox: what is this, a burning bush? Twigs thrown into the firebox also don’t solve the problem, even if there are real candles burning there, on the right.

The best way to imitate firewood in a fireplace is to wind newspaper tubes; By the way, they are also suitable for many other crafts. The tubes are painted in a gray-brown-crimson color (literally, in streaks), bent, broken and glued together in artistic disorder so that it looks like a pile of brushwood the width of the firebox. And even better - that it looked like it only from the outside, and at the back there was a cavity with fairly thin walls. The garland is placed in it. Shining through a newspaper painted to match the colors of dying firewood, it will give such a play of reflections that an ignorant guest will really think that there are coals smoldering there.

Like real

What is the structural difference between a decorative fireplace made of cardboard, intended for permanent decoration of a room, and a temporary holiday one? What allows you to contemplate it with pleasure, being in a bad mood on an ordinary gray day? The answer is simple - a shelf and under. It is these details that give the fireplace its permanent aesthetic significance.

You can also make a shelf under the fireplace from cardboard boxes, but, alas, they won’t last long - the thin parts glued from cardboard will soon warp due to changes in temperature and humidity. The solution is to glue the PVA shelf and under the fireplace in the form of 3-layer pies made of cardboard covers with foam boards between them.

How to make a festive fireplace from cardboard and polystyrene foam is shown in the figure:

decorative false fireplace made of cardboard and foam

Packaging cardboard from boxes is quite suitable for it, but you only need to glue it with PVA - it is this glue that will ensure the stability of shape and evenness of the surfaces of the cardboard-foam cake; it is not without reason that second-hand book dealers already safely use it for the restoration of old books instead of bone glue. Hollow columns for the same purpose, before finishing, are impregnated inside and outside with a water-polymer emulsion or the same PVA diluted to the consistency of whey.

Note: The design and approximate dimensions of a decorative fireplace made of cardboard and foam plastic are given in the following figure:

With real sparkle

Now let’s see how to make a fireplace from boxes with real flames dancing in the firebox. This in no way cancels out the imitation of burning wood in it and the reflections of fire in the firebox; on the contrary, all of it together will give the complete illusion of a real fireplace burning.

A way to supplement the above-described imitation of the reflections of a flame and unburnt wood with natural tongues of fire is known - these are candles in non-combustible bowls, see fig.:

It is, of course, impossible to load real fuel into a cardboard fireplace and set it on fire, especially since there is no chimney. But also with Certain precautions should be taken when using candles: organizational (may readers forgive us the inevitable formalism for the New Year) and technical.

Security measures

In fact, using an open fire in a living room is a serious violation of the rules fire safety. Moreover, there is a festive table nearby, and on it there is strong alcohol, which burns very well, and a Christmas tree with paper decorations. But what can you do, a New Year without a light is not the same New Year. Firefighters carefully prepare for it on their part; We will be ready too.

Organizational

The main way not to turn the New Year with a light in the fireplace into a nightmare and disaster is you, dear hosts. Make yourself a New Year's fireplace from boxes with real fire, only if you celebrate it culturally, without merchant revelry, and without losing your head. And if you have a New Year’s norm that someone, not having reached the Urals across time zones, is already sleeping with a mustache in a salad, someone is washing off their makeup with champagne, and someone is still trying and trying to get up from a bowl of dumplings - don’t. It is also not necessary if you are celebrating the New Year with preschool children.

Technical

The above-mentioned painting of the fireplace with watercolors or gouache is valuable not only in decorative terms - it creates a non-flammable layer on the cardboard, because The pigments of these paints are mineral. But this is not enough. You also need to make sure that the cardboard, if touched by a candle flame, does not catch fire for at least 10 minutes, and, preferably, extinguishes the dangerous candle.

Way to do wood materials fireproof for some time is also well known and widely used in wood construction. This is impregnation with fire retardant substances. Manufacturers of wood building materials use borax: when heated, it releases a large amount of water of crystallization vapor, is non-toxic and inexpensive. We need to saturate the cardboard in a higher concentration so that if a flame suddenly touches the impregnated surface, it will immediately be knocked down by a cloud of water vapor. To do this, make a stronger borax solution, approx. glass on the pan.

Dilute borax in glass (better) or enamel containers in hot water. After using the solution, pour clean water into the dishes, boil it, pour out the boiling water, and wash the dishes twice with cold water (glass dishes can be washed once after boiling).

The blank boxes are impregnated with a borax solution from the inside and outside until they are glued into the fireplace blank. Impregnation is carried out with a cooled solution. To prevent the workpiece from warping, soak it with a moderately moistened brush several times with pauses of 5-10 minutes. Impregnation on one side is considered complete if the other side feels slightly moist to the touch. Then the workpiece is allowed to dry and the other side is impregnated in the same number of passes. After this, the workpiece is dried for a day.

Note: newspaper tubes to imitate brushwood in a fireplace are soaked in a borax solution for 3-5 minutes, then dried, painted, shaped and glued. If a durable decorative fireplace is made with impregnation with a water-polymer emulsion (see above), then its blanks are first impregnated with borax.

Finally

As you can see, a fireplace made from boxes for the New Year turned out to be not so simple. However, the game is worth the candle. For another example of what kind of holiday fireplace you can make from boxes with your own hands, see the video tutorial:

(No ratings yet)

In anticipation of the New Year's magic, I want to transform my home, add comfort and festive mood. I remember European Christmas tales and films, where the interior always includes a fireplace with fir branches and red balls.

Do you think that installing a decorative fireplace on the eve of the gift boom is an unaffordable waste? Then make a fireplace out of boxes. Yes, exactly one of those that should have been thrown away a long time ago, but somehow the hands did not rise.

At the same time, empty out the pantry for the new year!

Like any other home craft, building a fireplace starts with planning. This stage may seem unnecessary and boring when an idea is already growing in your head and you want to quickly bring it into reality. But it is mandatory. Without the right sketch, “building” a fireplace will take a lot of time and effort, and the result may be disappointing.

At the planning stage we do the following:

  • we carefully select a place for the decorative element, since it is undesirable to move the finished structure;
  • we determine the style and predominant colors in the interior: a decorative fireplace should fit harmoniously into the decor, and not stand out with its absurdity;
  • we collect “construction” material (any cardboard boxes will do) and select the appropriate shape and size;
  • We make a drawing of the desired design with a detailed indication of all dimensions;
  • choose a method decorative finishing and prepare a sketch of the fireplace in color (very often what we draw in our imagination turns out to be far from ideal, but on paper all the flaws will be immediately visible).

When choosing a decoration method, we recommend visiting a hardware store. If you haven’t done renovations for a long time, you will be surprised how many new materials and mixtures have appeared on the market. Perhaps such a walk will prompt original idea painting or coating with imitation material.

Don’t rush to simplify everything as much as possible, because the manufacturing process itself is already quite simple. You need to pay enough attention to decorating the structure. Otherwise, you will get a craft at the level of a school labor lesson, which will not deceive or surprise anyone.

What will you need?

The easiest design to make comes from a large-diagonal TV box. Small boxes, for example from small household appliances or from under shoes, will need to be glued and remade to size.

Packaging from large household appliances (refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers and washing machines) it is better to disassemble it into cardboard sheets and form a box for the fireplace from scratch.

To create a fireplace, in addition to cardboard boxes, you may need:

  • a piece of drywall or foam for the mantelpiece;
  • a roll of white paper for pasting;
  • masking tape;
  • stationery tape;
  • Double-sided tape;
  • long ruler, tape measure and pencil;
  • sponge, wide brush and two small ones;
  • scissors and stationery knife;
  • PVA glue (for gluing cardboard);
  • polymer glue (for attaching decor);
  • water emulsion for priming (the background can be white or with the addition of color);
  • acrylic paint for painting parts;
  • finishing materials (liquid wallpaper, putty, plaster, varnishes);
  • decorative elements (New Year's decor, ceiling plinth, decorative stucco molding, colored paper and etc.).

This list is not dogma. It can be changed and supplemented depending on the specific project. Make your list and prepare all the materials and tools according to it in advance so that you don’t get distracted or irritated while creating.

Get inspired: the best ideas

If you are seriously considering making a fireplace from boxes or sheets of cardboard with your own hands, then the ideas we have selected will help you understand what variations are possible and be inspired to create your own masterpiece.

A fireplace in the shape of the letter “P” without a base is easy to make. Imitation of brickwork made of red paper bricks or wallpaper corresponds to the New Year theme.

The red brick fireplace and green spruce provide a classic holiday color scheme.

To create the desired effect, you can glue an image of burning logs to the inner wall of the fireplace. This fabulous option can be used as a prop for a children's party or for a home performance.

The image of the fire inside the fireplace can be more realistic, especially if you find a 3D format. If for pasting you take not individual bricks, but wallpaper or a special blank for brickwork, then it will turn out even more interesting. But here you need even angles and the correct shape.

You can also paint bricks on the surface. It will take more time, but it will look more believable. You can put rolled paper or thin cardboard in the firebox.

The use of plaster followed by the application of masonry figures turns a lightweight cardboard structure into a solid stone structure. The white color of marble will fit perfectly into the interior of a bedroom with pastel colors.

An excellent place for a fireplace is the wall between the windows in the spacious living room of a private house. The option with a chimney looks impressive in a large room.

For a fireplace in an aristocratic style, decorative elements made of polystyrene foam (patterns, strips) and a ceiling molding are well suited for a white massive stone.

They are glued with polymer glue onto a finished, but not painted, structure. It is important to maintain symmetry.

Instead of wrapping boxes with white paper, you can use fabric wrapping of a certain color. Feel free to involve children in the process: joint crafts strengthen relationships and develop imagination.

An excellent option for a small fireplace. It is more stable, so it can be placed not only against the wall. It will perfectly decorate the hallway. You can put a bunch of twigs from the park in the firebox, and to imitate fire, cut out a flame from colored paper or put short LED garlands(possible with flickering effect). The presence of dim light from the fireplace will fill the apartment with comfort and warmth.

If space allows, you can install a large false fireplace the height of a man. The mantelpiece can be decorated with themed figurines and a miniature Christmas tree. We leave a cabinet in place of the firebox - the size of the fireplace allows this. A bowl of sweets will replace the attraction of the flickering fire.

If the apartment does not have a free wall for a fireplace, then you can use the idea of a corner design. Its creation is not particularly complicated, but here special attention is paid to geometric proportions. A harmonious solution would be a right isosceles triangle at the base of a triangular prism.

To create a festive atmosphere in a cozy corner, light a few tea candles in the firebox and place decor or tangerines on the shelf.

New Year is the most fabulous holiday and it should be celebrated surrounded by magic. Create magic for yourself and your loved ones from available materials in three free evenings.

Master class: mini-fireplace from one box

Sometimes you want to festively decorate not only your home, but also your office or your workplace. In this case, it is enough to make a mini-fireplace that can be placed on a windowsill, an open shelf or a desk.

For the craft you will need:

  • 1 medium size box;
  • 3 small elongated boxes;
  • glue gun or regular PVA glue;
  • a piece of cardboard for the mantelpiece;
  • a piece of wallpaper with brickwork or self-adhesive oilcloth;
  • white water-based paint;
  • decor (fir branches, garlands, candles);
  • scissors and pencil.

We present step-by-step manufacturing instructions:

At the bottom of the box we glue all the doors. On the front side we bend one long flap (it will serve as the protruding base of the fireplace), and glue the other to the two short flaps.

We place small boxes around the perimeter of the resulting window and make markings with a pencil.

Using the markings made, we expand the window, cutting off the excess cardboard with scissors. Then we glue the boxes.

We cut out decorative elements from cut cardboard (you can come up with something original). We glue the blanks and planks onto the fireplace.

We glue the cardboard mantelpiece; it should protrude 4-5 cm, forming a canopy. We paint the craft with white paint in several layers. It is advisable to paint on all sides.

We fix the decor made of plastic or metal with polymer glue. On the inner wall and on the protruding bent base, glue a piece of wallpaper cut to size.

We complete the decoration with New Year's decor and candles.

Master class: fireplace with arch-shaped cutout

An easy way to make a homemade fireplace from two old boxes.

You will need:

  • 2 large boxes of the same size;
  • stationery tape;
  • knife and scissors;
  • sheet of cardboard;
  • gray wrapping paper;
  • brick color paint;
  • sponge for applying paint;
  • decor for decorating and simulating fire in the firebox.

And now the whole process step by step:

We take two old boxes and connect them to make a large box. Carefully tape all joints and seams with tape.

We make a cornice for the fireplace from cardboard.

We cut out an arch in the box (it’s better to do it first necessary markings). Wrap the box and cornice with wrapping paper. We cut out a window in the place of the arch and glue the edges of the paper.

We glue the cornice with tape.

Paint over interior walls fireplace with black spray paint (this is done outside). We dilute the paint of the desired shade for applying the bricks. Using a sponge, apply bricks to the surface and leave to dry.

Firewood and candles on a black background create a special atmosphere.

Master class: corner fireplace made of cardboard sheets with a chimney

One of the options for a corner fireplace was presented above. Making it from a cardboard box is not difficult. The design made from sheets of cardboard with a chimney is more complex and interesting.

First you need to prepare:

  • cardboard sheets;
  • tape measure and long ruler;
  • pencil, scissors and stationery knife;
  • glue gun;
  • paint white and red.

When all materials and tools are prepared, you can begin to work. In this project, it is very important to draw up a preliminary drawing and take all measurements. It is more convenient to immediately cut the necessary workpieces. And in order not to get confused, sign the sizes on them. Then all that remains is to assemble the constructor.

Detailed manufacturing process:

We cut out triangular bases with a rounded edge. You will need 4 blanks to create a durable structure. We glue a border from pieces of cardboard to one of the blanks. Inside the resulting box we create stiffening ribs.

We close the structure with a second blank and get a solid base for the fireplace. We do the top in the same way.

For reliability, we secure the joints with masking tape. We glue the resulting parts to the side panels.

We install a panel inside the fireplace to close the corner. We install planks on the sides and form a wide “wall” with stiffening ribs. Ready design Cover with primer and white paint.

We cut blanks from cardboard to decorate the fireplace inside and outside. We make the elements for interior decoration wider and shorter and paint them pink. It is better to make external elements narrower and longer; they are painted red, creating contrast. We cover the fireplace with blanks inside and outside.

Let's start making a chimney with stiffeners. Glue a single sheet of cardboard onto the front side. We paint the chimney with white paint and create an imitation of wood.

We fix the chimney and decorate it with New Year's decor.

Nowadays, almost every person dreams of a cozy and warm home. When we say “home,” we often mean family. Thus, the idea of creating a home with your own hands arose. Most associate comfort with a fireplace, but many do not have the opportunity to install one. However, not everyone knows that you can make it yourself and not using brickwork, but from simple cardboard boxes. Don't listen to those who will claim that he is not real. This can be done in one day, and in appearance it can be even better than the original.

Our country can boast of great ability to produce masterpieces from improvised materials. In this case, we will look at fireplaces, the production of which will take a little time. The most important thing, without which a false fireplace will not work, even if you have the most detailed instructions- This is a large cardboard box. It can be taken from the TV, refrigerator and even from a vacuum cleaner.

But the most important thing is that it must meet 3 requirements:

  1. The cardboard must be packable and very strong. It must be rigid enough to support the weight of the top shelf and future finishing.
  2. The box must be large in size so that there is plenty of room for the fulfillment of fantasies. If the box with the required parameters is not found, you can use smaller dimensions and create a corner fireplace.
  3. The material must be unnecessary. For example, if you bought a refrigerator and its repair warranty has expired, you can use the box for your own purposes. Otherwise, if the equipment breaks down, it may not be accepted for service.

In addition, for the work you will need: masking tape, hot glue, primer, a stationery knife, a spatula of the required size, acrylic paint. If you want to organize additional finishing, you can purchase polystyrene foam, drywall, mosaic borders, varnishes and grout. To make the work more comfortable, you can use a grinder and a jigsaw.

Preparation before creating a fireplace with your own hands from boxes

Before you create artificial fireplace made of cardboard, you need to create a design for the upcoming product. It is necessary to create it because in the process even the most skillful hands will not be able to work only on imagination; you will need to rely on at least something.

If you don't have a box of the right size, you can use several small boxes and glue them together in the process, giving the assembly an arched shape.

The first step in preparing a plan should be to mark out the parameters of the future fireplace. Everything must be taken into account according to the capabilities of the room.

When calculating parameters, the following conditions must be taken into account:

  1. The fireplace should be placed under the wall where there is no furniture. This way it can become a key attribute.
  2. If you don't have much space, but have an empty corner, then a small corner fireplace would be a great option. It can effectively decorate your living space.

Having calculated all the dimensions and determined the free space, you can begin organizing the layout of the future fireplace. On a large sheet of paper in a selected scale, you need to display the plan in height and width. Don't forget to indicate the depth of the firebox, as well as its shape. Once all the details have been specified, you can proceed directly to working with the box.

DIY New Year's fireplace: making a frame

Creating a fireplace frame is the most crucial moment in organizing a cardboard fireplace. To do this, you need to make markings on the box and, using a stationery knife, cut out all the components for the future design. The future will depend on how carefully the work is done. appearance products. Therefore, the work must be done as carefully and clearly as possible.

In order for everything to go perfectly, lay the material on the floor and, using a pencil, mark the location of the future firebox and all the necessary bends.

It is best to mark in different colors. This nuance will help when assembling structures.

In order for the cardboard to bend better during assembly, it is recommended to cut it, but only slightly and the top layer, which covers the corrugated interior.

After this, the firebox is cut out. Regardless of what shape the future firebox will have, its formation is always identical. First, a window is cut out, then Bottom part bends, and thus we get the bottom of the firebox. The next thing to do is the side and back walls. They are measured and cut out from another piece of cardboard to be identical in shape to the frame. Each of the cut out figures should be 5 centimeters larger. This is done so that the material can be glued comfortably. The entire structure is assembled and glued with assembly adhesive or secured with a stapler. If you want to install additional shelves, then assembly of the structure should be postponed until they are manufactured. The shelves are made in the same way as the fireplace insert.

When everything is ready, you can think about strengthening the structure.

To strengthen you will need:

  • You need to put foam or cardboard under the firebox and shelves;
  • The material must be dense, light and able to withstand everything that will be placed in the niche;
  • If there is a possibility that the structure may bend in certain places, you need to place the rolled tube in cardboard.

To make the structure more durable, experts recommend using cardboard or plywood. But such materials require installation only on a metal frame.

How to make a fireplace from cardboard boxes

To build such a fireplace we will need:

  • Cardboard boxes: small, for example, for shoes (5-6 pcs.) and large (4 pcs.)
  • Scotch tape: regular and double-sided
  • PVA glue
  • Thick white paper or a piece of old wallpaper
  • Sheets of cardboard or wallpaper with a brick pattern
  • Ruler, simple pencil.
  • To prevent the boxes from opening, we tape all the joints together with tape. According to the drawing in the figure, we assemble the base of the future fireplace. We glue the boxes that will make up the parts of the fireplace with tape together. For the side racks we use smaller boxes stacked on top of each other. We make the base of the fireplace and the upper mantelpiece from larger boxes, butted end to end with the short sides.

    We cover each part of the fireplace with thick paper or old wallpaper. Boxes must be completely covered with paper. We connect the edges of the paper with tape. Now we glue the parts of the fireplace together with PVA glue. The product is ready, all that remains is to design it.

    To decorate the fireplace, we use wallpaper with a brick pattern or sheets of thick cardboard. Four “bricks” can be cut from one cardboard sheet. We cover the fireplace with wallpaper, giving the appearance of brickwork. If we use “bricks” cut out of cardboard, we glue them onto the surface of the boxes, creating rows of bricks and leaving gaps between the bricks, so that it is as similar as possible to natural masonry.

    To glue the “bricks” we use PVA glue. The back wall of the fireplace, adjacent to the wall, does not need to be covered. If the cardboard is white, paint it with paints of appropriate shades - from sandy yellow to dark red.

    The fireplace is ready, let's install it in a prepared place in the room, against the wall. We will put decor on the mantelpiece, and we can put natural logs or their imitation in the hole for firewood. Here we focus on our imagination.

    Exquisite decorative fireplace from a large box

    Let's prepare materials to create a fireplace. For this you will need a large cardboard TV box. You can use thick cardboard instead of a large box. But then you need to be prepared for the fact that it will have to be cut and glued.

    You will also find it useful for making a decorative fireplace:

  • Stationery knife
  • Scotch
  • PVA glue
  • Skirting boards and foam decor
  • Paint in a can
  • Ruler, simple pencil.
  • We transfer the drawing to the TV box. We cut a hole in the middle of the box according to the drawing. This will be the “hearth”. We fold the cut edges and glue them to the back wall of the box. If cardboard is used, we cut the sheets according to the drawing, taking into account gluing tolerances. We connect them together with glue.
    To make the top of the fireplace, take a sheet of foam plastic or plywood, or glue together several sheets of cardboard. Glue the resulting mantelpiece to the fireplace itself.

    To ensure that the fireplace is stable, it is better to glue an additional sheet of cardboard or plywood to the base. At a hardware store we will buy a foam ceiling cornice and a couple of decorative elements - foam pylons or rosettes. They will add sophistication and grace to our hearth. Let's glue the decor to the fireplace. To do this, use PVA glue or liquid nails.

    We paint the fireplace in two layers with white or other pastel color spray paint. So as not to spoil flooring, lay old newspapers or paper on the floor. After painting, let the product dry and install the fireplace. The decorative fireplace is ready.

    Firewood for the hearth can be made from cardboard, twisted into logs, or natural branches can be used. If the fireplace is planned in one color, we will paint the firewood with the same paint. You can also place candles in tall glass glasses or an electric garland in the recess of the hearth. Decorating the mantelpiece also leaves room for creativity. Photos in beautiful frames, paintings or flower arrangements and memorable gifts in bright packaging will look great on the mantelpiece.

    Sketch of the future hearth

    Before planning to make a cardboard fireplace, you need to study the experience of those who have already turned the idea into reality.

    Planning:

    • Determining the location for the future structure. An empty corner or wall would be most suitable.
    • Depending on the availability of free space, the dimensions of the structure are determined.
    • Making a sketch. External and internal dimensions must be marked on it. The sketch can be done in color, complementing it with intended decorative elements. These elements do not need to be drawn, you just need to determine the places for them. This fireplace diagram will allow you to see the future product in its finished form.

    When thinking through decorative details, you must strive to ensure that the resulting layout is as similar as possible to a real fireplace.

    Manufacturing process

    The basis of the fireplace structure will be a cardboard frame. For its construction, it is best to use thick cardboard boxes. Corrugated cardboard will be the most suitable for packaging large household products. If you still have the packaging from the TV, then the ideal frame is ready.

    In addition to cardboard, you need to prepare:

    • Stationery and polymer glue, which will be used to attach decorative elements.
    • Wide tape, better to use double-sided masking tape.
    • White paint. For coloring cardboard, dispersion is the most suitable.
    • The cutting tools you will need are scissors and a cutter.
    • Paint brushes and foam rubber or sponge.
    • Old cloth napkins or scraps of fabric.

    Depending on the idea, other materials should be provided. For example, stucco molding made of foam material. If there is a residue of liquid wallpaper, then it can be used to create volume.

    How to make a fireplace using cardboard?

    Assembling a false fireplace begins with the manufacture of the central block. First you need to form the columns. To do this, you need to cut out rectangular parts according to the dimensions.

    We must remember that cutting cardboard is not difficult, but making straight folds on it is more difficult work. In order to make an even fold, you will need an even bar or ruler and an object to secure the fold. For this purpose, it will be quite convenient to use a regular spoon or pen.

    The ruler is placed along the fold line, the cardboard is carefully folded along the ruler and a line is drawn on the back side. This must be done carefully so that the fragile cardboard does not break through.

    The central part is covered with paper or painted immediately. After assembly, these actions will be difficult to perform.

    The finished parts are assembled using tape. As mentioned above, it is convenient to use double-sided tape for these purposes.

    To ensure that the product is evenly painted, you can apply a white primer before applying the paint. A layer of primer will smooth out any existing unevenness. After the cardboard absorbs the applied primer and dries well, you can begin painting.

    A mandatory attribute of a fireplace is a shelf on top. It should be dense and hard. To make a shelf, you will need to roll the cardboard in three or four layers - this will ensure the necessary rigidity.

    As an alternative to cardboard for the shelf, you can cut a strip from thin plywood. Another option for a shelf is polystyrene foam. The material is light and durable. Such a shelf will also allow you to fasten the frame of the fireplace.

    Finish options

    An interesting option is to imitate brick or stone masonry. To do this, you can choose a self-adhesive film. Such materials are sold in construction supermarkets. You just need to calculate the size of the canvas and select the desired design in the store.

    If the product is decorated with stucco, the fireplace will look more interesting. For these purposes, use the remains of ceiling tiles, foam baseboards, or buy additional moldings additionally.

    If desired, the fireplace can be decorated with additional elements. For example, a New Year's fireplace can be complemented LED lamps simulating candles.

    And finally, the most important thing that allows us to call a fireplace a home is fire. A few logs wrapped in LED strip will make the fireplace look almost real. And on New Year's Eve, the flickering light of the fireplace will give the room comfort and a festive mood.

    So, a simple and accessible, financially easy option for building a home is outlined. We can say that this is a basic instruction on how to make a decorative fireplace. The basis is there, but the decoration decorative elements everyone does it according to their own taste.
